The Coralition is committed to storytelling through collaboration. Because its members span three continents, the unique combination of voices is particularly clear each time they get together in a room. The sound is about now, the power of the present moment and the sublime result that is possible when people join forces. Sharvit’s compositions play off each musician’s particular sonic palette, highlighting Seabrook’s textural experimentation, Koenig’s edgy grooves, O’Farrill’s buoyant melodies, and Gilad’s harmonic nuance. The Coralition relies on each voice being heard as part of the whole. It’s about spontaneity, raw energy, and building off each one in order to form something greater than the sum of its parts.
The music itself covers a range of stylistic and emotional ground. It ranges from meticulously through-composed to gleefully free, and from serious and solemn to humorous and giddy. From songs about grief after loss to tunes that could be found on a roller-rink soundtrack, the Coralition ultimately seeks to connect to their audience through highlighting moments of joy and pain. There is no better way to do this than by drawing on the diverse experiences of its members.
